Before I Considered Being an Author, I Was an Artist First

People often ask me how I became an author. The truth is, before I ever wrote a book, I was an artist.

Long before The Oldest Daughter Playbook existed, I was writing songs, creating stories, recording music, and finding ways to express emotions that were often too heavy to say out loud. Art gave me a language before I had the confidence to use my voice.

As the oldest daughter, I spent much of my life carrying responsibilities that felt bigger than me. I learned how to survive, how to lead, and how to keep moving forward. What I did not always know how to do was process everything I was carrying.

Music became my outlet.

Through songwriting, I discovered that vulnerability was not weakness. It was courage. Every lyric I wrote allowed me to release something I had been holding onto. Every performance reminded me that my story mattered.

Looking back now, I realize that becoming an author was never a complete career shift. It was simply another chapter of the same journey.

Artists tell stories.

Authors tell stories.

The medium changed, but the mission stayed the same.

Whether I am writing a song, hosting a podcast, speaking at an event, or writing a book, my goal has always been to create connection. I want people to feel seen. I want people to know they are not alone in what they are carrying.

The Oldest Daughter Playbook was born from that same desire.

This book is not just a collection of experiences. It is a love letter to every eldest daughter who has felt invisible beneath the weight of responsibility. It is for the women who became caregivers before they became adults. The women who learned strength before they learned rest.

Before I became an author, I was an artist.

And if I am being honest, I still am.

The music may sound different now. Sometimes it comes through songs. Sometimes it comes through blog posts. Sometimes it comes through the pages of a book.

But it is all the same story.

A refugee girl finding her voice.

A survivor choosing healing.

An oldest daughter learning that her worth is not measured by how much she carries.

And an artist who finally realized that her story deserved to be written down.
